Celebrities join students for the protests

Often times, celebrities are role models to a younger generation. What they may say or do can create a profound impact on them.

Yesterday, celebrities were united for the Nirapod Shorok movement. Plenty of celebrities gathered around Uttara to support the cause. Rawnak Hasan, Joint Secretary of Actors Equity Bangladesh, was a part of the protest: “We are here not as artistes, but as concerned citizens.”

Zakia Bari Mamo took a break from shooting for a while to join the cause. “We need a change in the system to stop road accidents,” says Mamo.

Director Shakal Ahmed and his entire unit took a leave from shooting as well. “Road safety is for everyone. The students are fighting for our rights and we should stand beside them,” he says.

Celebrities also joined the movement in Dhanmondi. Tanvin Sweety, Vice President of Actors Equity Bangladesh, Farzana Chumki,Ahsanul Haque Minu and director Mohon Khan were seen in Dhanmondi chanting slogans.

Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed stood in front of Hotel Ruposhi Bangla in solidarity with the students. “At the end of the day, we all want to return home safely. We have lost way too many lives to reckless driving,” says Nawshaba.

Singer Konal, along with other musicians and anchors, declared solidarity with the protestors at Shahbagh.
