A six-day sculpture exhibition titled, International Celebration of Contemporary Sculpture, featuring the works of promising artistes from across the country concluded at Artist Rashid Chowdhury Art Gallery, Fine Arts Institute of Chittagong University (CU) recently. The exhibition took off with the motto, "Three-dimensional art and society."
Sculpture Network, a Germany based sculpture organisation, arranged the exhibition which is organised every year at the end of January to promote and support sculpture artists.
The exhibition was held at 95 venues of 21 countries this year. It was held at the Artist Rashid Chowdhury Art Gallery, Fine Arts of CU and Alliance Francaise de Chittagong Gallery in Bangladesh.
A total of 82 artistes 80 sculptures were displayed in the exhibition. The artists used metals, pipes, ceramics, fiber glasses, clothes, synthetic clothes, metal sheets, wood, papers, saw dust, stones, terracotta, sand, coal, junk wastage, and recycled materials to make their sculptures.
Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury inaugurated the event as the chief guest, while Former CU Professor Hamiduzzaman Khan, Alliance française de Chittagong Director Dr Selvam Thorez, and eminent sculptor Mainul Abedin were also present.
The exhibition concluded with a spectacular cultural programme where present and former students of CU's Fine Arts Institute took part.
