Actor Sonu Sood’s commendable initiatives amid coronavirus crisis

Indian actor Sonu Sood, mostly known for playing villains in films, has taken some commendable initiatives amid the coronavirus crisis.

He started in March by distributing food in different areas. He was involved in distributing food and groceries to slums in Mumbai. He recently started a food distribution drive, under the initiative, Shakti Annadanam, aiming to feed more than 45,000 people daily.

With state borders sealed and trains and buses suspended, thousands of men, women and children were left with no other option but to walk miles to reach home. Sood has been helping thousands of migrant workers, stranded by the lockdown in Mumbai, to return home.

Since May, he has arranged hundreds of buses to take stranded migrants home. The actor also booked three trains to send migrant workers stuck in Mumbai to their homes in UP and Bihar, as trains can accommodate more people at a time. He also offered his Mumbai hotel as accommodation for frontline workers.

Sood has been getting requests from all over India now. He has been working night and day, coordinating with respective state governments.

He recently helped 177 migrant workers stuck in Kerala to reach their hometowns via aircraft, after taking the necessary precautions and permissions.

One of the migrant workers even named his son after the actor, out of gratitude. Filmmaker Farah Khan, actors Shilpa Shetty, Neha Dhupia, Dia Mirza and Suniel Shetty, among others, have also been praising him and offering him financial help for his initiatives.
