Dotara has always been an essential instrument of Bengali folk music. The one who introduced Dotara to this subcontinent was maestro Kanai Lal Shil. Traditional musicians worked relentlessly in order to honour his legacy and to preserve the art of traditional instrumental music. The newly formed central committee of Bangladesh Dotara Shilpigoshthi hosted a discussion session and cultural programme at Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) recently. The programme was attended by the chief advisor of the organisation, Md Nasiruddin, Ashutosh Shil, the son of Maestro Kanai Lal Shil, among many others.
