‘Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge 3’ celebrates the journey of Elita Karim

The third installment of the weekly contest, Cartoon People Gaan-Toon Caricature Challenge, organised by Cartoon People, was held online recently. Young and established artists from all over the nation submitted caricatures of renowned singer and journalist Elita Karim.

Around 60 caricatures of the noted singer by professional and aspiring cartoonists came in during this week's challenge. "This session made one thing clear – girls draw better caricatures of females, while boys sketch male figures better," laughs Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy. "Since many professional cartoonists join us during the live sessions, it gives aspiring artists the opportunity to understand the technical features of drawing caricatures. The discussion also helps them in understanding the importance of this medium in art."

Elita Karim has always been supportive of cartoonists. "There are many artists who are very active, but what makes me happy is that Tanmoy and this community come up with brilliant ideas and initiatives," said the singer, during the online live session. "Artists, while drawing caricatures have to interpret each facial feature of their subject and it's not an easy task. I sneaked into their public group while the submissions were open and I loved how the young cartoonists were appreciating each other's works!"

The winners of this session, selected by Elita Karim herself, along with Syed Rashad Imam Tanmoy and noted poet and journalist Anik Khan, the advisor to Cartoon People, were declared during the live session on Cartoon People's official Facebook page.

Noted cartoonist Sayed Fida Hossain secured the first position. "Caricature is simultaneously the easiest and the most complex form of art," he shares. "Young artists should always remember that caricatures are a type of portrait, and so, a raw and deep understanding of human anatomy is very important."

The second, third and fourth positions were secured by Asifur Rahman, Nafisa Anjum and Mushfique Ahmed Mousum, respectively. The upcoming segments of the contest will feature other renowned musicians, including Raef Al Hasan Rafa, Fuad Almuqtadir, Topu, Saif Zohan, Xefer Rahman, Armeen Musa and rock band Arbovirus.
