Turkey wants to sell weapons to Bangladesh

More interested in trade and investment, says Momen

Turkey wants to sell weapons to Bangladesh as it is now producing majority of the arms it needs.

This was discussed during the meeting between Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu and Bangladesh's Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.

"This was not in the agenda. But the Turkish minister shared the idea of defence cooperation," Momen told The Daily Star today.

Asked about Bangladesh's response, he said that there was no prompt reply. However, Bangladesh wants to diversify its sources of defence purchase, Momen said.

"If needed, we may consider it, but nothing concrete was discussed," he said.

Bangladesh is more interested in trade and investment, he added.
