The deputy commissioner of Jamalpur Ahmed Kabir has been made an officer on special duty on Sunday, after a video of him in a compromising position with a female employee in his office began making rounds on social media since early Friday.
The public administration ministry issued a notification in this regard, saying the order will be effective immediately.
The post of officer on special duty or OSD rarely offers opportunity for work.
Kabir has been replaced by Mohammad Enamul Haque, who was serving as the planning minister’s private secretary.
Additional deputy commissioner general (ADC-general) of the district administration Rajib Kumar Sarkar made the announcement while briefing journalists at his office yesterday.
“The newly appointed DC of Jamalpur Enamul Haque is expected to join his post soon,” he said, adding that more than one probe bodies would be formed by the authorities concerned to investigate the incident and the viral video in social media.
State Minister for Public Administration Farhad Hossain earlier told reporters that Ahmed Kabir would face departmental action after an investigation.
Two video clips from the incident went viral on Facebook.
Media reports identified the man in the video as Jamalpur DC Kabir and the woman as a staffer in his office.
The room shown in the video clip is the restroom in the DC’s office.
Speaking to journalists, Kabir on Saturday denied the allegations brought against him on social media, calling it a “conspiracy”.
