Minor girl raped by neighbour

A four-and-a-half-year-old girl was raped allegedly by a teenage boy in Gauripur upazila of Mymensingh on Monday, while a court sent three men to jail yesterday on charge of gang-raping a teenage girl in Shayestaganj upazila of Habiganj.

The minor girl is now undergoing treatment at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

Police said the girl was home alone on Monday noon when her parents were at work. Her father is a rickshaw-puller and mother a domestic help.

Taking advantage of the situation, a 13-year-old boy from a neighbouring house took the girl into a nearby bush alluring her to give candies. Then, the boy with the help of one of his friends raped her, said police quoting the victim’s family. When the girl started screaming, locals rushed in and rescued her. The accused, however, fled.

The victim was first taken to Gauripur Upazila Health Complex and then to MMCH.

Later on Wednesday, the girl’s mother failed a case against the alleged rapist and his aide, who are on the run, said Md Kamrul Islam Mia, officer-in-charge of Gauripur Police Station. A medical test was done on the girl and her condition is improving, said the OC.

Meanwhile, a court in Habiganj yesterday sent three persons to jail on charge of gang-raping a 16-year-old girl who came to visit a relative in Shayestaganj upazila.

The accused are Shohel Mia, 35, Jahangir Mia, 32 and Abu Mia, 35. All of them are residents of different villages of Habiganj sadar upazila.

The victim is a resident of Sreemangal upazila of Moulvibazar and came to Shayestaganj with a male friend on Tuesday. Around 10:00pm, when they were looking for the relative’s house in Surabai area, three men approached them and offered to help. Later the trio tricked them into a house in Olipur area, and beat up the boy and forced him out of the room before gang-raping the girl.

Sensing the crime, locals came to the scene, caught the three, and handed them over to police on Wednesday morning. The victim filed a case on Wednesday night, said Anisur Rahman, OC of Shayestaganj Police Station.

The girl was sent to hospital for medical examination.
