Woman killed, child hurt in Bandarban gunfight

Says Bangladesh Army press release

A woman was killed and her four-year-old son was injured in a gunfight between members of Bangladesh Army and Parbatya Chattogram Jana Sanghati Samity (PCJSS) in Rowangchhari upazila of Bandarban on Friday, said a press release issued by the army.

Three patrol teams of Bangladesh Army took positions in Angaipara area of the upazila between 5:30pm and 6:00pm on information that a group of PCJSS extortionists were there.

Sensing their presence, the criminals opened fire targeting army personnel and fled the scene, it added.

Later, the patrol teams chased the criminals and conducted a search operation in the area. While searching, they found a woman and her child with bullet wounds, the press release read.

Army men rescued the duo. But the woman succumbed to her injuries when they were being shifted to Bandarban Sadar Hospital in an army ambulance, it added.

Locals identified the woman as Shantibala Tanchangya, 32.
