Surge in last-minute sales

Exhibitors at this year's Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) have not only met their marketing and branding targets but also nearly doubled sales as visitors showed up in droves throughout the month.

The participating companies have credited the stable political situation as well as the good management by the organisers for one of the successful editions of the annual show in recent years.

“We have sold huge amount of products during the fair,” Md Ashequr Rahman Rumel, pavilion in-charge of Karupannya, told The Daily Star. 

“The sales have the highest in our 18 years of participation in the annual event.” Karupannya produces different types of handcrafts, floor mates and door mates which carry the local heritage.

According to Rumel, participation in the DITF has a long-term impact on the business.

Wasiur Rahman, proprietor of Craft N Kraft, said their sales were more than three times the regular turnover in a single month. “The fair will help improve our business further as customers have been very happy about our exclusive jute products.”

Since 2000, Partex Furniture has been participating in the country's biggest trade show, but this time has been really amazing because as many as 90 percent of its products were new and affordable to all kinds of customers, said Ashok Kumar, senior manager for retail sales at the furniture maker.

“This year's fair has been different as the sales and customers' responses were really positive.”

He said visitors rushed to Partex Furniture's pavilion at the fair thanks to its quality products at reasonable prices.

Kamruzzaman Kamal, marketing director of Pran-RFL Group, said the company's sales were better this year compared to previous years. Mohammad Golam Rabbane, assistant general manager for business devilment at Fit Elegance Ltd, said young and executives prefer its products as they can buy a complete suit at only Tk 3,500.

“The sale of suits on the occasion of the DITF has been better this year compared to last year's,” he said.
