Gulshan café attack ‘arms supplier’ Sagor gives confessional statement

“Neo JMB” member Hadisur Rahman Sagor, who was arrested allegedly for supplying arms in Holey Artisan Bakery attack in 2016, confessed before a magistrate today.

Sagor gave his confessional statement before Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Golam Nabi for over six hours since 12:00pm, our court correspondent said.

Humayun Kabir, an inspector of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), and also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced him before the court today.

According to the CTTC official, Sagor supplied arms and explosives used in the Holey Artisan Bakery attack in Dhaka’s Gulshan that left 20 dead including 17 foreigners in 2016.

He is also said to be the brother-in-law of Nurul Islam Marzan, a top “Neo JMB” operative who was also a planner of the café siege.

Earlier on March 22, a team of police arrested Sagor, 36, from Shibganj upazila in Bogura and handed him over to the CTTC unit.

He was placed on seven-day remand hours after his arrest.

Tamim Chowdhury, a suspected mastermind of the Gulshan café attack who was killed during a raid in Narayanganj, brought Sagor to “Neo JMB”. Before joining the “Neo JMB” in 2015, he was a member of banned militant outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
