Intercity trains were delayed to depart from Chittagong Railway Station as the rail tracks went under rainwater yesterday, causing sufferings to homebound people ahead of Eid.
Station Manager Abul Kalam Azad said Bijoy Express, which was destined for Mymensingh, was delayed for around two hours as the rail tracks got waterlogged in Parhartali area due to downpour.
“The train was scheduled for 7:20am but it had to wait till 9:15am. This affected all other trains thereafter,” he said.
Sylhet-bound Paharika Express and Mohanagar Express bound for Dhaka were scheduled for 9:00am and 12:30pm respectively. Both the trains were delayed for around half an hour.
The schedule collapse caused sufferings to hundreds of homebound passengers.
Golam Maola, a passenger of Paharika Express, said the weather have been disrupting regular movement for the last three days. “Such inconvenience could be managed if the railway authorities took measures previously.”
Similar comment came from Farid, a passenger of Bijoy Express.
