Newborn rescued from dumpster finds home

The newborn rescued from a dumpster in Dhaka’s Mohammadpur area yesterday has found a place she can call home.

She has been adopted by a family who has chosen to remain unnamed in the media, Brig Gen AKM Nasiruddin, director of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, told The Daily Star today.

As per court order, she will be taken to Square Hospitals in Dhaka where she will go through a thorough medical checkup and remain hospitalised there until a full recovery, he said.

A cleaner named Fatema was cleaning in Mohammadpur area at dawn when she heard the crying of a baby. She rushed to the spot and saw a newborn girl with umbilical cord still attached.

When police came to rescue the newborn, Fatema went to the DMCH with the baby.
