Unidentified miscreants hacked a CNG-run auto-rickshaw driver to death on Chattogram-Cox's Bazar Highway at Lohagara upazila of Chattogram early yesterday.
Police said the deceased was identified as Abdul Monaf, 45.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Nur Nabi of Lohagara Police Station said locals spotted the body in Thakur Dighi area beside the highway and informed the police at around 10:30am.
“Police rushed to the spot and retrieved the body at around 1:30pm after preparing the inquest report, and sent the body to Chattogram Medical College morgue for autopsy,” said the sub-inspector.
Monaf possibly came under attack by miscreants the previous night while he was returning home, said the SI.
He said hacking marks were found on his head, while his body also bore multiple injury marks.
The SI said reason behind the incident could not be known immediately. "We are looking into the matter," he added.
Police recovered his mobile phone beside the body, said the SI.
A case was lodged in this connection with Lohagara police station, he added.
