DU student rape: journalist witness gives statement

A journalist and the sixth prosecution witness, today gave her deposition before a Dhaka tribunal in a case filed in January over the rape of a Dhaka University student.

The journalist is one of the well-wishers of the victim and sometimes stayed at her residence.

Judge Begum Mosammat Quamrunnahar of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-7 of Dhaka recorded the statement.

Court sources said the journalist today told the tribunal that she came to know about the incident around 10:30pm on the night of January 5, and later she, along with others took quick initiatives for her treatment at Dhaka Medical and Hospital.

The witness also demanded exemplary punishment for the lone accused Majnu, who was produced before the tribunal today.

The tribunal then fixed September 27 for next hearing of the case.

Earlier, the victim, her father, a DU teacher and two of her friends gave their statements before the same tribunal.

On January 5, the DU student was raped while she was walking from Kurmitola bus stop to a friend's house near Shewra Rail gate in the capital around 7:30pm after getting off a university bus.
