Assam quake jolts parts of Bangladesh

A 5.3-magnitude earthquake shook the capital and some other parts of the country yesterday.

The epicentre of the quake was in Saptagram of India's Assam state, 293 kilometres north of BMD Seismic Centre in Agargaon, said Mominul Islam, a meteorologist at Dhaka Met office.

The tremor was felt at 10:50am, he added.

However, the US Geological Survey said the epicentre was nine kilometres away from Saptagram. It measured the earthquake's magnitude at 5.6.
