Nurun Nahar Khan passes away

Nurun Nahar Khan, mother of late Mahbubul Hoque Shakil, PM's special assistant, died of a cardiac arrest at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) early yesterday. She was 75.

She had long been suffering from liver cirrhosis and uterus cancer. She was admitted to MMCH on February 1, as her condition worsened, family sources said.

The first female student of Sadaat College in Karatia of Tangail, Nurun Nahar was involved in student politics and a member of the college's student council. She was also a former teacher of Premier Ideal High School (formerly Pre-Cadet School) in Mymensingh city.

She has left behind her husband Advocate Jahirul Haque -- president of Mymensingh district Awami League and also former administrator of Zila Parishad -- and son Naimul Haque, news editor of The Daily Star, as well as a host of relatives and admirers to mourn her death.

Her namaz-e-janaza was held at Charpara Jamia Islamia Madrasa ground, following which she was laid to rest at Bhatikashor graveyard after Zohr prayers.

A doa and milad mahfil will be held at the family's Baghmara residence after Asr prayers tomorrow.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at the death of Nurun Nahar Khan, says a release of the Press Wing of Prime Minister's Office.

Her eldest son Shakil breathed his last on December 6, 2016 in Dhaka.
