Rivalry over mosque committee

Present and former ward councillors clash, 12 injured

Police yesterday arrested 22 people including incumbent and former councillors of Narayanganj City Corporation ward-18, following a clash over rivalry centring the formation of a local mosque committee and establishing supremacy in the area.

The groups were led by Kabir Hossain and Kamrul Hasan Munna, present and former councillor of the ward respectively. At least 12 were injured in the two-hour long clash that started at midnight in the city's Nalua area. Both groups used sticks and sharp weapons.

After the clash, groups filed two separate cases against one another. Following that, police arrested the accused persons at around 4am from the same area.

All of the accused were sent to court seeking seven-day remand, said the OC.
