Road accidents kill three in Dhaka

Three persons died and three others were injured in separate road accidents in the city yesterday.

A youth was killed and three others were injured when a truck and a pickup van collided head-on in Malibagh. The deceased was primarily identified by police as Ripon, 18, helper of the truck driver.  The injured are passengers of the pickup van, who received treatment at a city hospital.

The goods-laden truck rammed into the chicken-carrying van near Abul Hotel around 5:30am, leaving Ripon dead on the spot, said Sub-inspector Mizanur Rahman of Hatirjheel Police Station. His body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy.

In Shyamoli, Abul Hossain, 60, was run over by a bus when he was crossing the road yesterday afternoon. Police seized the bus but its driver managed to flee.

Meanwhile, a day laborer who was injured on Wednesday night when a rickshaw was hit by a bus in Mirpur, succumbed to his injures yesterday morning.

The victim was identified as Kalu Mia, said Sub-inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH Police Outpost.
