Rohingya woman among two held at Ctg passport office

Officials of Chattogram regional passport office yesterday detained two persons including a Rohingya woman, while she was trying to obtain a Bangladeshi passport through fake documents.

The detainees are Sumaiya Akhter, 20, daughter of Abul Fayez of Haindapara of Mongdu in Myanmar; and her associate Md Rezaul Haque, 22, said Deputy Director Abu Sayeed of Chattogram Regional Passport Office.

A Bangladeshi passport was found in Rezaul’s possession, but it could not be determined whether it was forged or not, he said.

“Officials detained the woman due to suspicious behaviour, and quizzed her after she showed her documents,” Sayeed said.

“In the papers, she mentioned Md Eliash as her father’s name as Rahima as her mother’s. She claimed she was from Paschim Dholoi of Hathazari,” he said.

The DD said during interrogation, Sumaiya said she came to Cox’s Bazar from Myanmar one and a half years ago, and arrived in Chattogram two months ago, where Rezaul arranged the fake documents.

The duo was handed over to Double Mooring Police Station.
