Uproar over data sharing: Folk-fest authorities clarifies

The Dhaka International Folk Fest (DIFF) authorities have said that the personal information and other relevant data of the audience are required during their registration process on security ground.

The required data is being taken during the registration for the sake of security of the event, its audience and artists and for supporting the law and order.

The DIFF has come up with the clarification on its Facebook page in the wake of the uproar created in the social media over sharing of private data during the registrant process of the folk fest 2019.

Confirming that Shohoz is just a partner of the event to registrar data of the audience, the DIFF Shohoz is collecting all information including NID of the audience for security reasons.

Shohoz is a trusted registration partner of the DIFF and it did not share any information of the audience for the past 5 years, the DIFF authority said in the Facebook page.

In the clarification, the DIFF authorities said it has shared name, email address and phone numbers of the registered participants with the newly launched digital wallet Dmoney, the official payment partner of DIFF 2019.

This has been done only to preempt DMoney app downloads for the benefit of the users so that they can avail offers at the food court.

No NID or any other personal information of the registered person were shared with any partners and no Dmoney account has been created for any registered participants.
