The National Technical Advisory Committee formed to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic, has advised the government to go for an advance payment in a bid to procure the Covid-19 vaccine quickly.
"Some countries have already gone for advance payment as all countries of the world are in a race to collect the vaccine. Added to that is an apprehension that the Gavi vaccine will take time to come out. In this circumstance, Bangladesh needs to be booked for the vaccine by advance payment," the committee said in a press release issued today.
The advice came from the 19th online meeting of the committee held last night where Professor Dr Mohammad Shahidullah, chairperson of the committee, presided over the meeting.
Suggesting the government to increase the number of Covid-19 tests, the committee also advised the government to keep Durga Puja celebrations on a limited scale to contain further spread of the virus.
It also called upon the government to chalk out elaborate diplomatic plans on how to preserve and disseminate the vaccine.
