AL woman activist killed in Chandpur

A local woman activist of the ruling Awami League was allegedly hacked to death in Chandpur Sadar upazila last night.

The victim Kohinur Begum, 45, was a member of the district unit women front of Awami League, our correspondent reports quoting Masuda Noor Khan, member secretary of the district women wing of AL.

Abdul Mannan, husband of the victim lodged a case today with Chandpur Model Police Station showing one Nayan Begum, 35, as key accused of the murder.

Police recovered the body from Nayan’s house around midnight yesterday. Nayan might be linked with the killing as she went into hiding after the incident, AH Enayat Uddin, officer-in-charge of Chandpur Model Police Station told The Daily Star.

Police took two girls – Tisha, a college student and Tonny, a class-five student, daughters of Nayan Begum, for quizzing in this connection, the OC said.

“Motive behind the killing has not yet been confirmed,” the OC added.

“Nayan made a phone call to my wife around 8:00pm to meet her. At one point, she came to my house and went away with my wife around 8:30pm. Since then, she remained missing,” Abdul Mannan, husband of the victim said.

Nayan Bagum also took some gold ornaments from the house, victim’s son Shipon, who is a student of Daffodil University of Dhaka, claimed.

During primary interrogation, Nayan’s daughters Tisha and Tonny told the police that they suddenly heard cries for help from a nearby room of their house around 8:30pm. They found Kohinur’s body in a pool of blood in that room.

The body was sent to Chandpur Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
