A Bangladeshi national was shot dead allegedly by Indian Border Security Force (BSF) members along Gilabari border in Bholahat upazila of Chapainawabganj last night.
The deceased was identified as Saidul Islam, 28, son of Erfan Ali, a resident of Shikari village in the upazila, reports our Chapainawabganj correspondent quoting Mohsin Reza, officer-in-charge of Bholahat Police Station.
The BSF troops opened fire on some cattle traders when they were trying to enter India through Gilabari border, the OC said quoting witnesses.
Saidul was hit by a bullet and died on the spot, the OC said adding that locals brought the body to his home.
On information, police rushed to Saidul’s home and sent the body to Chapainawabganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy around 3:30am, police said.
Contacted, Lt Col Rashed Ali, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh battalion-59, confirmed the death of Saidul and said, “We are yet to know whether he was killed by BSF firing.”
“If the allegation against BSF is found true, we will strongly protest the incident,” he added.
