Lightning kills two in Bagerhat

Two people, including a woman, were killed and two others injured in separate lightning incidents in Morelganj and Sadar upazila of Bagerhat district today.

Officer-in-charge (OC) of Morelganj Police Station Md Rashedul Alam said that Bikash Mridha,50, and Subhash Talukdar,48, were working in a fish enclosure when lightning struck them, leaving them severely injured. Later, Bikash Mridha was declared dead at the Sadar Hospital of the district.

Shree Debi, 30, wife of Sujeet, was injured in a separate incident of lighting strike in Joymoni Katakhal area of the upazila. She was taken to the Upazila Health Complex in a critical condition.

In Sadar upazila, housewife Shampa Rani Mondal was severely injured after being hit by lightning when she went to a field to call the cattle home amid rain.

Bemorta union parishad chairman Monwar Hossain said that after being taken to the hospital, doctors declared Shampa dead.
