Max Hospital fires 2 doctors over Raifa’s death

Two physicians of Max Hospital have been sacked as a probe committee found their negligence in the treatment of minor girl Raifa Khan that caused her death.

The two physicians are Dr Debashish Sengupta and Dr Shuvra Deb.

The hospital authorities took the decision after the probe body, formed by the government to investigate the death of Raifa Khan, found the evidence of negligence in her treatment, Dr Md Liakat Ali Khan, managing director of the hospital, told UNB today.

Besides, the authorities decided not to call child specialist Dr Bidhan Roy Chowdhury to the hospital to avail of his service.

Raifa Khan, 3, daughter of Rubel Khan, staff reporter of vernacular daily the Daily Samakal, died due to wrong treatment at the private hospital in the port city on the early morning of June 29.

The Health Ministry formed the investigation committee on June 30 with Chittagong Civil Surgeon Azizur Rahman Siddique as its head.
