The body of a police official, who went missing after a clash with fishermen in the Meghna River on Friday, was found in Barishal this morning.

SK Mohsin Alam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Haimchar Police Station, said the body of Mosharraf Hossain,32, was recovered around 11:00am from the river in Hizla upazila of the district.

Mosharraf was in his uniform when he fell into the river but police found his naked body today, our Chandpur correspondent reports quoting the OC.

While conducting a drive against a wanted criminal in the river Friday night, Mosharraf and his team members noticed that some fishermen illegally catching jatka (hilsa fry less than 10 inches long).

Then, they conducted another drive against the illegal fishing. Sensing their presence, the fishermen attacked the police team with their oars, ensuring a clash.

Mosharraf fell into the river during the clash and was reported missing since then, the OC added.
