2 killed in Bagerhat road accident

A rider and his pillion on a motorcycle were killed today when hit by a passenger bus coming from the opposite direction in Bagerhat's Fakirhat upazila.

The deceased were identified as Ruhul Amin (28), son of Abul Hasan of Dhopakhali village in Kachua upazila, and Mujibur (29), of Chauddahazari village in Chitalmari upazila.

The incident took place at Khajura area on Khulna-Mongla highway around 1:00pm, reports our Bagerhat correspondent quoting police.

"The Bagerhat-bound passenger bus from Khulna hit the motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, leaving its two passengers dead on the spot," said Pankaj Chandra Roy, superintendent of Bagerhat police.

On information, police went to the spot, recovered the bodies and sent them to Bagerhat Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, the SP said, adding that police also seized the bus and arrested its driver.

Vehicular movement on Khulna-Mongla highway remained suspended for about half-an-hour after the accident. Later, police brought the situation under control and restored traffic movement on the highway, SP Pankaj added.
