Police arrested another accused in a gang-rape case from Sadar upazila in Pabna this morning.
Arrestee Md Osman Ali, 33, son of Fazlur Rahman from Gaati village, went into hiding after the case was filed by the victim on September 9, said Md Asad Uz Zaman, acting officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station.
With the latest arrest, all the five accused in the case have been arrested in five days of filing the case, our local correspondent reports.
The woman, mother of three children, of Joshodal village in Dapunia was gang-raped on August 29 to August 31. Later, the victim was forced to marry one of the rapists at Sadar Police Station on September 5.
After the allegations got reported in the media, a case was filed with Pabna Police Station on September 9 accusing five people -- Russel, Ghontu, Sonju, Hossain and Osman. Of them, four accused were arrested while Osman was on the run.
“The arrestee (Osman) helped the rapists to rape the victim. We will produce him before the court later,” acting OC Zaman said.
Yesterday, the officer-in-charge and a sub-inspector of Sadar Police Station were withdrawn and suspended over allegations of arranging a marriage between a gang-raped woman and one of the rapists.
The district administration yesterday formed a probe committee to look into the allegations. Another committee formed earlier by the police has been investigating the matter.
