BGB steps up vigilance in border areas to prevent rawhide smuggling

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has imposed highest alert in border areas to prevent possible smuggling of rawhide -- generated during Eid-ul-Azha.

BGB-49 battalion sources said they imposed restriction on the movement of rawhide-carrying vehicles in the bordering areas, including Putkhali, Goga, Kayba, Agrabhulot, Rudrapur, Daulatpur, Gatipara, Ghiba, Sadipur, Bara Anchra, Kashipur and Raghunathpur border areas of Benapole and Sharsha, reports our Benapole correspondent.

The manpower of BGB has already been increased at various points of the border. The BGB has stepped up surveillance on land and railways, including the port area. BGB patrols have been intensified in the border areas, BGB-49 Battalion Commanding Officer Lt Colonel Selim Reza said.

BGB members have already started their patrol along the border, he said. The BGB force also urged people living along the border to remain alert in this regard. The restriction will remain in force until further instruction.

Lt Colonel Selim Reza said patrols have been intensified, especially at night. The patrol system has been strengthened by identifying risky border areas so that no one can smuggle leather into India.
