Chinese miner dies as rocks fall on him

A Chinese miner was killed and a Bangladeshi miner badly injured when a heap of rocks fell on them at Barapukuria Coal Mining Company Ltd (BCMCL) colliery in Parbatipur upazila early yesterday.

The Chinese worker was, 35. He was an employee of CMC-XMC Consortium, a China-based contracted company of BCMCL.

The injured Bangladeshi miner was identified as Rezaul Karim, 32, son of late Md Monsur Rahman of Kalupara village under the upazila.

BCMCL Managing Director (MD) Fazlur Rahman said the two miners were cleaning the hopper (a place near the shaft of BCMCL) when a heap of rocks piled up there suddenly fell on them. They were buried under the rocks, miners said.

Workers at the spot rushed them to Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where doctor announced Sun Jingsheng dead.
