A student of Pabna Edward College was hacked to death by criminals near the college on Tuesday night.
The victim, Ahmed Mishkat Mishu, 24, son of Golam Mostafa of Shibrampur village, was a second-year student of chemistry department of the college.
Victim's family members said Mishu went for private teaching at about 9:00am. He was called by somebody and went to Edward College.
“Later, we came to know that Mishu had been attacked by criminals near the college and was being taken to Pabna Medical College Hospital,” said Md Sultan Hossain, an uncle of the victim, quoting Mishu's parents.
Mishu succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital at about 10:30pm, he added.
Pabna Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Obaidul Haque said the motive behind the murder is not clear.
“Primarily, we suspect that rivalry over love affair might be the reason behind the killing, but everything will be clear after investigation,” the OC said.
Police picked up Jim Hossain, 23, a student of a private engineering college and a friend of the victim, for interrogation, he said.
“Although Mishu was admitted to chemistry department, he dropped a year for getting admission to a private engineering college. He rejoined the college in the second-year,” said Pabna Edward College Principal Dr Humayun Kabir Majumder.
