Failing to Serve Tea: Tea-stall owner beaten up

The son of a local influential trader attacked a tea-stall owner in Mirzapur upazila and beat him up allegedly after the latter failed to serve him tea with milk.

Victim Ajit Sarkar, 50, also sustained burn injuries during the attack.

Injured Ajit, who runs a tea-stall at Kalibari Road in Mirzapur municipality for years, is now undergoing treatment at the burn unit of Kumudini Hospital.

Although the incident took place on Thursday, the poor victim did not dared to file any complaint to the police station in this regard as the attacker is son of a local influential man.

Victim's family members alleged that an employee of trader Shahidul Alam Ratan, former general secretary of Mirzapur Bazar Committee, went to Ajit's tea-stall on Thursday and asked for tea with milk.

The employee, however, return to his shop empty handed when Ajit told him that milk-mixed tea is not available at his stall.

Hearing Ajit's reply, Shahidul's son Nafiuj went to Ajit's tea-stall and started beating him.

At one stage of beating, some boiled water from a Kettle splashed on different parts of Ajit's body, leaving him seriously injured.

Contacted, Nafiuj's father Shahidul termed the incident unexpected and told the local journalists that they are bearing Ajit's treatment cost.

They would settle the matter soon, he added.
