Seven people, including three children, have drowned in Tangail and Patuakhali, report our correspondents.
Three children and a schoolboy drowned in floodwaters of Tangail's Kalihati, Mirzapur and Delduar upazilas on Monday.
Two children drowned at Gilabari village in Kalihati at noon. The victims are Khushi, 5, daughter of Lavlu Miah of the village, and her cousin Abir, 6, son of Mohammad Siddik of Betbari village in Sadar upazila.
The duo fell in the floodwaters while playing near the house. Later, local people rescued the two and took them to Bhuapur Upazila Health Complex where on duty doctors declared them dead.
A schoolboy drowned in floodwaters at Postkamuri village in Mirzapur around 1:30pm. The deceased is Nawshad Karim, 13, son of Harunur Rashid of the village.
Nawshad went missing when he went to take bath in the floodwaters. Later, divers of fire service and civil defense recovered his body, said Shafiqul Islam, senior station officer of Tangail fire station.
Meanwhile, Munni, 5, of Katuli village in Delduar upazila drowned in floodwaters when he was playing near the floodwaters adjacent to her house in the morning, local sources said.
In Patuakhali, three cousins drowned in a pond in Kalaiya union of Baufal upazila on Monday afternoon.
The bodies of the three girls were recovered from the pond at Karpurkathi village around 6:30pm, said Kalaiya Union Parishad Chairman SM Faisal Ahmed Monir Hossain Mollah.
The deceased are Mahfuza Begum, 15, Marium Begum, 15, and Maria Begum, 11.
Of them, Mahfuza, a 10th grader of Mansuria Dakhil Madrasa, is the daughter of Abdur Razzak Khan while Marium and Maria, students of Class X and VI of Kalaiya Rabbania Fazil Madrasa respectively, are daughters of Razzak's brother Mokhlesur Rahman.
According to the family, the three went to take bathe in the pond near their house in the afternoon.
Family members began searching for them as they did not return home in the evening.
Later, family found the bodies of the cousins floating in the pond.
None of them knew how to swim, the relatives said.
