5 of their co-workers sustained injuries in the Sirajganj incident

Two construction workers were killed and five others injured when a boundary wall of a house adjacent to a government primary school in Sirajganj Sadar upazila crashed down on them on Sunday.

The deceased, Mohammad Belal Hossain, 60, and Mohammad Jelkad, 65, were residents of Charkura village in Kamarkhand upazila of the district.

Assistant Director at Sirajganj Fire Station Mohammad Abdul Hamid quoted local people as saying that seven workers were digging earth on Dhanbandhi Government Primary School premises for the construction of an academic building of the institution.

At one stage, due to a sudden erosion of the underneath soil the boundary wall of a nearby house collapsed on them around 3:30pm, leaving all the seven workers severely injured, he said.

Being informed by the school authority, a fire fighting unit from Sirajganj Fire Station went to the spot, rescued the injured victims and admitted them to Sirajganj General Hospital for treatment.

Belal and Jelkad succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment there the same evening, Hamid said, adding that the injured workers are still taking treatment at the hospital.
