Judicial Conference 2018 Held at Noakhali

 ‘The expectations of the mass people regarding the competency of the judges is very high. Therefore, a judge has to be punctual, disciplined, wise in the verses of law and an ideal person with dignified and sophisticated behavior with the people of his territory’, Mr. Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain, the Honorable Chief Justice of Bangladesh remarked as the Chief Guestof the Judicial Conference 2018 held at the Noakhali District and Sessions Judge Court on September 8, 2018.

Mr. Saleh Uddin, Honorable Judge,Noakhali District and Sessions Court was the chair of the conference. The other dignified guests of the event were Mr. Justice Ashraful Kamal, Honorable Judge, High Court Division, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain, Registrar General, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Advocate Abdul BasetMajumder, veteran lawyer, Supreme Court of Bangladesh; Mr.Utpaul Chowdhury, Chief Judicial Magistrate andMr. Abu Saleh Kaysar, Judge in-charge,Noakhali District Court.

The Honorable Chief Justice stressed that judges nowadays remain under the constant scrutiny of the public, the civil society and the media. As such, he urged the judges to carry out their duty of imparting justice among the litigants fittingly. Justice Mahmud Hossain further commented that to increase the confidence of people on the judiciary, the pending lawsuits needed to be disposedof rapidly. As such, he proposed that the courts should run up to 4:30 PM in the afternoon. Additionally, he observed that if judges utilized the morning sessions properly, many problems relating to case backlogs would be removed.

The respectedspeakers of the conference also underlined the importance of a well-functioning judiciary to establish rule of law in the country. They advised the judges to respect the oath that they undertook prior to serving the judiciary.In his speech, Mr. Saleh Uddin Ahmed, Noakhali District and Sessions Judge pointed out the shortage in the number of judges in performing the functions of the courts. He also echoed theresolve of the judiciary of Noakhali district in upholding justice. 

The DC, SP, civil surgeon and other judges of Noakhali district attended the program. Mr. Alamgir Hossain, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate and Ms. Nasrin Zahan, Joint District Judge, Noakhali moderated the program.
