some relief

Children jump off a rope tied to a vessel and dive into the Kirtankhola river. The soothing waters provide the children with some relief from hot summer days. The photo was taken yesterday in Barishal’s Palashpur area. Photo: Titu Das

the cannonball tree

Native to South America, the cannonball tree -- photographed at Ramna Park -- is quite popular in Bangladesh. The large, fragrant flowers do not have any nectar, but bees are drawn to the colour and smell. The name of this tree comes from its large, round fruit, which makes a cannonball-like sound when it hits the ground. Photo: Rashed Shumon

awareness against animal cruelty

Due to raised water level because of cyclone Fani, many wild animals came out of their natural habitats. Taking this opportunity, children in Sylhet Sadar upazila’s Baish Tila area hunted foxes. Considering that cases such as this are frequent in Bangladesh, awareness against animal cruelty is much needed. Photo: Sheikh Nasir
