Firefighters and locals rummage through charred remains after a fire ravaged part of Sat Tola slum in Mohakhali last night. More than 100 shanties and slum shops were burnt in the fire that broke out around 11:45pm. Twelve fire engines brought the flames under control around an hour later. ferry service

With the ferry service on Nazirganj-Joukura route suspended for about three months due to poor navigability in the Padma, people take boats and unfit launches, not in the picture, to cross the river, putting their lives at risk. Local officials of the Roads and Highways Department, which operates the service, say they are awaiting a decision from the higher authorities to address the problem. The photo was taken at Nazirganj Ferry Ghat in Pabna’s Sujanagar upazila on Thursday. Photo: Star

tax returns

Due to the pandemic, this year’s tax fair, an event many prefer to go to for filing their tax returns, has been cancelled. However, authorities have decided to set up service centres in all tax zones, making it easier for everyone to contribute towards creating a better society. This photo was taken yesterday from port city’s Agrabad. Photo: Rajib Raihan

kadamtali flyover

Youngsters have made this section under the Kadamtali flyover in Chattogram city into their personal miniature football field. From friendly matches to tournaments, this place has become lively with all the activities, drawing in audience from nearby. Hawkers often illegally occupy such spaces, but the children made great use out of the vacant area amid the dearth of playing fields. This photo was taken on Friday. Photo: Rajib Raihan
