Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam said today that the matter of giving permission for BNP’s rally in front of its Naya Paltan central office is under consideration.
"I have not told anyone that the permission has been given. But the issue is now under our consideration," he told The Daily Star this evening.
Earlier in the day, BNP leaders told media that police issued verbal permission to the party to hold the rally tomorrow demanding BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s release, marking two years of her imprisonment.
A BNP delegation met the DMP commissioner yesterday and sought permission to hold the rally.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has been behind bars since February 8, 2018 after a special court jailed her in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
Later, she was found guilty in another graft case.
