Shakhawat Hossain Shafque has been made organising secretary of ruling Awami League and given charges of Sylhet division.
AL President Sheikh Hasina, also the prime minister, took the decision today as the party councillors gave her the authority at its last council held on December 20-21.
Apart from this, the ruling party distributed charges among seven other organising secretaries, according to a party press release.
Other six organising secretaries are: Ahmed Hossain, Chattogram division; BM Mozammel Haque, Khulna division; Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan (lawmaker), Rangpur division; SM Kamal Hossain, Rajshahi division; Mirza Azam (lawmaker), Dhaka division; Advocate Afzal Hossain, Barishal division; Shafiul Alam Chowdhury Nadel, Mymensingh division.
Earlier on December 20, the AL council session started around 10:30am at the Institution of Engineers Bangladesh auditorium in the capital with participation of 7,337 councillors from across the country.
On the second and final day of the party council, Sheikh Hasina was re-elected the party president for the ninth consecutive time, while Obaidul Quader got a second straight term as the general secretary. Both of them were elected unopposed.
