Best Sehri Deals

It's that time of the year again, when your alarms have been set to 3 am so that you can have a nice meal before forgoing food for a long number of hours the next day. While it's nice to stay at home and chill, you might want to venture out once or twice this Ramadan and check out some of these sehri deals around town.

Nando's: Satiate your sehri cravings with a trip to the nearest Nando's (Dhanmondi, Banani, Gulshan 1 and Gulshan 2). Their “buy one get one free” offer is too good to miss. They don't have any particular sehri menu, but you have the freedom to choose whatever you want. Do note though, that this is only for regular meals – drinks are not included in the offer. You can even avail this service for take-away, or make use of home delivery via HungryNaki.

Gloria Jean's Coffees: Their sehri menu consists of three specials – butter chicken with basmati rice at BDT 499, mutton rogan josh with basmati rice also at BDT 499, and fish manchurian with mushroom rice at BDT 350. All these prices are exclusive of 15 percent VAT. If you order two of the same platter, you get a third – of the same type – for free. Drinks do not come with these platters, so you'll need to order that separately. This offer is available at both the Dhanmondi and Gulshan 1 outlets, starting from 2 am.

Fool's Diner: They offer the same menu for their sehri as they do for iftar. The 'Sehri Bento' contains steamed or fried rice, corrokke (which is a croquette of some sort), lollipop chicken, spring rolls, special maki rolls, teriyaki chicken and mixed veggies. With these you also get some assorted fruits, mango kulfi and a glass of lemonade. All these for the price of BDT 695, all inclusive. If this bento box isn't what you're looking for, then you can order from the regular menu, for up to 90 minutes before Fajr prayers. Located in Banani, this place also allows you to have the food delivered to your door by HungryNaki.

Chaap Shamlao: This is where you want to go if you're craving some good old rice and bhorta. Their sehri menu consists of daal, bhorta, bhaaji, a choice of either fish or chicken, and a bottle of water. All this for the extremely economical price of BDT 230. Their portions are generous and will definitely leave you satisfied. Indulge in these homely dishes in Dhanmondi or Banani from 1:30 am onwards.

Punjab Kitchen: This is a good option for Uttara residents. They have six platters to choose from, which include a vegetarian thaali consisting of vegetable biriyani, paneer reshmi, mixed vegetable dopeaza, a garden salad and faluda – priced at BDT 375+. Beef bhuna, fried chicken and chicken biriyani feature in other dishes – just pick the right thaali for you. These are all priced at either BDT 375+ or 395+.

Hakka Dhaka: Grab a seat at Hakka Dhaka in Banani or Uttara. Though they offer sehri only twice a week – Thursdays and Fridays, the menu is one you want to dive into. For sehri, you may order from the specialised Ramadan menu or the regular menu. If you want to choose from the Ramadan menus, then you have a choice between a Regular Platter and a Mega Platter. The regular platter includes their Hakka chicken wings, Hakka noodles, Hunan chicken, dry chilli beef, stir fried prawn and egg fried rice which you may refill as required. The mega platter includes all this and some more. A full sized regular platter, which serves four people, would come to BDT 2500, while the mega platter would cost BDT 4000.

Hotel Al-Razzak: Saved the best for last. This gem of a place is situated in old Dhaka, and is undoubtedly the most popular choice for sehri. Order to your heart's content, choosing from the menu which offers regular rice and daal, or go for the biriyani and full leg roasts. The cost will depend on what you choose to order, but it should be within BDT 300-400. The place starts to get crowded right after midnight, so don't start late and bank on empty seats.

We hope you have a happy and healthy Ramadan this season, devoid of cramps and food poisoning. Ramadan Mubarak!
