MOMEDS is a youth-led organisation that raises awareness and extends healthcare benefits to the underprivileged population in Bangladesh. The organisation was founded during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, by Ikmal Momin and Faiyaz Ul Haque. They are both grade 9 students at Sunbeams School, Dhaka.
Upon its formation, the organisation embraced the motto "Touching lives" with the promise of being by the people, at all times. MOMEDS currently has nine members in its team, Ikmal Momin (Founder CEO), Faiyaz Ul Haque (Co-Founder), Parthib Karmakar (Head of Research) and Sadia Sharmeen (Head of Content), and five volunteers, all of whom play an integral part. Its advisors include professional doctors.
Medical equipment shortages have challenged nations around the globe, however, as the world faces Covid-19, the conditions have worsened. In Bangladesh, with nearly 1200 people per square kilometer, social distancing is a monumental task. MOMEDS attempted to bridge the shortage of medical supplies in hospitals and MOMEDS Care raised funds for donating medical equipment to hospitals.
The first donation project took place on October 4, 2020. The objective of the project was to stand by a hospital that was serving the poor. After nearly two months of fundraising, enough money was raised to purchase essential medical equipment such as oxygen cylinders, nasal cannula, and Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRS).
Dr. M R Khan Shishu Hospital and Institute of Child Health, Mirpur, serves one-third of their patients free of cost, and it was chosen for the first project. Apart from the donation, the gratitude of the hospital staff cannot go unmentioned. From the very day, their welcomeness and congeniality made the event possible.
MOMEDS has plans to expand their reach to more hospitals. However, reaching out to the disadvantaged mass in society is a moral responsibility, and the team urges you to join hands with them with the true spirit of "touching lives".
