BPL to get Ultra Edge 'by Saturday'

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) media committee chairman Jalal Yunus informed fans of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) that the tournament will be equipped with the Ultra Edge technology 'by Saturday'.

The sixth edition of the BPL is featuring the Decision Review System (DRS) for the first time in its history, but the system was at times rendered meaningless when referring caught-behind decisions as the tournament started without Ultra Edge, which detects the sound -- however faint -- made when ball hits bat.

The absence of both HotSpot (which uses infrared cameras to see whether the ball has left a mark on the bat) and Ultra Edge caused controversy when Sylhet Sixers pacer Al Amin Hossain was denied a caught-behind appeal against Comilla Victorians' Steve Smith on January 6 in Mirpur, but upon review the on-field umpire's decision was reversed, even though there was no discernible way or technology of telling if the ball had in fact grazed bat.
