Tigers hoping to break final jinx

The Tigers will be looking forward to a happy ending before they travel to England for the ICC World Cup when they face off against the West Indies in the tri-series final at The Village in Malahide today. The final will start from 3.45pm BST.

Bangladesh put up a strong showing in the league stage with emphatic wins in all three games, undoing West Indies twice, but they have to break a jinx if they want to sign off on an unbeaten note and go to England with full confidence.

Bangladesh have so far played six finals in tri-series and multi-nation tournaments, but have never been able to make it past the final hurdle.

Mashrafe Bin Mortaza has been given the golden opportunity to break that barrier this time, considering the fact that are in good touch and will go against a depleted West Indies with a full-strength side.

However, Mashrafe will hope that his ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan can recover from a side strain, suffered while batting against Ireland, in time to play the final. The team management was assessing his injury and the decision will be made in the morning. It was also learned that if Shakib did ultimately miss the game, it would only be a precautionary measure ahead of the World Cup.

The Bangladesh skipper will also hope that weather does not play foul and the latest forecast was for cloudy weather but rains to stay away for most part of the day. Brief showers are expected around noon, but they should not get in the way of a full game.
