Former Real Madrid midfielder Guti Hernandez believes that PSG forward Neymar needs to join Real Madrid to achieve new heights in his career.
Neymar has been very successful since his 222 m Euro move to PSG from Barcelona, scoring 20 goals from 19 appearances in Ligue 1 to go along with 13 assists for the Paris outfit. His Champions League outing has been fairly impressive as well, scoring seven times and providing four assists in seven matches.
However, there is a belief that to really shine, Neymar needs to move to a bigger league. Real Madrid have already let their intentions known, with the Madrid President even coming out to say that Neymar needed to join Real Madrid to win the Ballon d’or.
Guti, who coaches Real’s youth team was asked whether Neymar would be seen in Real Madrid colours one day. He told Cadena Ser Radio: "I think so. In the end, he has been in an important club like Barcelona and now he is in another at PSG but you only really get to see him in the Champions League. All that is missing for him is Real Madrid. If he wants to progress and move further, in order to do that he needs to do it at Real Madrid."
Guti also suggested that Neymar moving to Madrid would not threaten Cristiano Ronaldo’s position at the club.
"Zidane proved that there is no one untouchable -- only Cristiano -- and that is down to his own merit," Guti said when asked if it was the end of the BBC.
"But it will depend on [Bale and Benzema]. They are great players and if they are at the top level, they are very important players for Real Madrid," Guti concluded.
PSG were defeated 3-1 at the Bernabeu by the Spanish giants in a game where the gulf between the two sides showed in terms of Champions League big game mentality. Neymar shone with his skills but Cristiano came out on top with two goals in the first leg round of 16 clash on February 15. Madrid will play PSG away on March 7 in the return leg at Paris.
