Siddikur two shots behind leaders

Siddikur Rahman played a flawless round of golf at the Classic Golf and Country Club in Gurgaon, India yesterday to move to within two strokes of the leaders at the end of the second round of Panasonic Open India.

The 34-year-old golfer, who had settled for a three-under-par in the first round, stroked five birdies – four of those on consecutive holes – to move to joint fourth position on the leaderboard with an aggregate score of eight-under-par (136).

The two-time Asian Tour winner hit birdies from the third to the sixth holes before returning with an opening birdie at the back nine to close the gap with the three leaders, who finished the day at 10-under-par (134).

The event was reduced to 54 strokes due to unfavourable weather conditions, meaning today will be the final round of the 400,000-dollar event.

“It was a wonderful day and I also enjoyed a bogey-free round with five birdies. I hit some really great shots and I’m feeling so comfortable on this golf course. I’ve been struggling with my swing but it has stabilised and I felt really awesome out there. My short game is also there and I’m feeling very confident for the final round tomorrow,” a happy Siddikur told at the end of day’s play.

Siddikur was one of only two Bangladeshi golfers to make the cut, with Jamal Hossain Mollah being the other who moved to 43rd position with an aggregate of two-under-par (142).

Three other Bangladeshi golfers – Badal Hossain, Shakhawat Hossain Sohel and Mohammad Ismail – failed to make the cut.
