Cardiff City manager to attend Sala funeral

AFP

Cardiff City manager Neil Warnock and chief executive Ken Choo will attend Argentine footballer Emiliano Sala's funeral in his home town on Saturday, the English Premier League club that signed him shortly before his death told AFP.

Their attendance was confirmed by club spokesman Mark Denham in an email on Thursday.

The 28-year-old had signed for Cardiff City and was flying to his new team from his old club Nantes in France when his light aircraft went missing over the Channel on January 21.

The striker's body was recovered last week but pilot David Ibbotson is still missing. The plane remains under the sea.

Fans stabbed in Rome ahead of Sevilla-Lazio

AFP

At least three people were stabbed in a mass brawl Wednesday between Lazio and Sevilla fans in Rome, with one suffering serious injuries, Italian media reported.

Two Spanish fans and an American were hurt in the fight, which broke out ahead of Thursday's UEFA Europa League match, La Repubblica daily said.

"Everything was quiet, when suddenly we heard shouting and the sound of broken glass. We rushed to the window and saw guys with hoods armed with clubs and batons that were attacking other guys," one local bar owner told the daily.

Some forty people were involved in the clashes in Monti, near the Colosseum in the historic centre, which was broken up by police in riot gear, it said.

Hamsik seals China move

AFP

Napoli captain Marek Hamsik has sealed his move to Chinese Super League club Dalian Yifang, the Serie A side's lawyer told Italian radio on Wednesday.

"Hamsik is a Dalian player from 2030 (1930 GMT) this evening," Napoli lawyer Mattia Grassani told Radio Kiss Kiss.

The Slovakian, who is currently in the city where he was born, Banska Bystrica, will arrive in China on Friday.

Napoli had initially suspended the deal because of a problem with agreed "payment methods" with the Chinese club who are coached by German Bernd Schuster.

Gazzetta Dello Sport reported on Wednesday that under the renegotiated deal the 20-million-euro ($22.6 million) fee will be paid in two instalments -- five million euros immediately and another 15 million euros already guaranteed within a year.

Hamsik scored 121 goals in 520 appearances and last season overtook legend Diego Maradona (115) as the club's record goalscorer. The three-year deal will reportedly earn him an annual salary of nine million euros ($10.2 million) -- three times what he earns in Italy.
