Bidyanondo Foundation raises public awareness on preventive measures for coronavirus

Bidyanondo Foundation, a non-profit social welfare organisation, has been restlessly working for providing basic facilities to underprivileged communities.  From providing basic needs to hygiene materials to changing lifestyles of socially ignored groups, they have been actively working over the years.

Owing to the coronavirus pandemic, the organisation has taken commendable precautions to create public awareness in the capital. Recently in Pallabi, Mirpur, they constructed and renovated a wall, setting up water taps and basins along with hand washes for pedestrians and the public. "We have taken the initiative to have a proper cleaning and handwashing system through installing water taps in the walls, all over Dhaka. However, as it is a costly procedure, many landlords have raised objections," says Salman Khan, Dhaka Division Branch Manager of the organisation. "Hence, we have decided to install portable drums. Moreover, we are trying to get permission from the City Corporation and WASA, to get enough water supply." Washing hands is one of the major preventions that can help us from getting infected from the deadly virus.

They have also produced three layered reusable dust proof masks in their Basonti Prokolpo workshop, where the Bashonti sanitary pads were made. "We have distributed these masks to schools and colleges. As the educational institutes have closed down, we will now distribute them to patients at hospitals," explains Salman.

The organisation further plans to distribute hand sanitisers to public places, like foot over bridges and bus stands. "We are talking to the bus owners, to get permission for spraying water, mixed with antiseptic liquids, so that the public places can remain clean," concludes Salman.
