3 held with 3.5kg gold in Jashore

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh today detained three people along with 3.5kg gold from Jashore town while they were allegedly smuggling the gold to India.

The detainees are Ratan Kumar Poddar, 45, of Munshiganj; Pradip Saha, 50, of Brahmanbaria; and Pankaj Datta, 48, of Dhaka's Gendaria, said a BGB official.

Acting on a tip-off, a BGB team launched a drive at a Benapole-bound bus in Bahadurpur Bazar area this noon and detained the trio along with the 32 gold bars, said Selim Reza, commanding officer of BGB Battalion-49.

During primary interrogation, the detainees admitted that they were trying to smuggle the gold to India, said the BGB official.

The detainees were handed over to Kotwali Police Station, our Benapole correspondent reports, quoting the commanding officer.
