Veteran actor and politician Farooque has won numerous prestigious accolades, including the National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement, in his illustrious career. The political leader will be donating food packages to over 5,000 underprivileged families who are currently in distress, as the country copes with the coronavirus pandemic. We caught up with him to find out more about his initiatives.
You are not only a celebrated actor, but also a political leader for us. How do you think we can help the people of the country in these difficult times?
The whole world is facing an unprecedented, serious issue at the moment. I know that staying indoors can be difficult for many, but right now, we have no option other than to follow the instructions of the government. I will be donating food supplies to families in need in the next couple of days. I have supervised the packaging process, and will personally deliver the packages with the help of my associates. I would stand beside our people, even if I were not a Member of Parliament.
How many families do you intend to reach with this initiative?
Around 5,000 food packages will be distributed today in different areas, under my supervision. Each food box has 10 kg of rice. We have also included lentils, potatoes, onions and cooking oil. We started packing the boxes a few days ago. If necessary, I will try to provide for more residents.
How are you spending your time these days?
My son and daughter, who were studying in London, have returned home. Even though I am physically present in my house, my mind and heart are with the people who are in vulnerable situations right now. I am trying to help the people of our country as much as I can.
Do you have any message for our readers in these troubling times?
I would request everyone to stay home and pray that everyone stays safe. Reading books and watching movies are good ways to spend the time, if boredom hits you.
